sorry to break it to you, but as my biochemistry lecturer told us today, the pounds people lose in the first weeks of a diet are mainly water lost, due to the high water holding capacity of carbohydrates, you can starve for weeks before you start burning 'fat', which means strenuous exercise each day and a very strict diet regime for you to lose real weight, but hey its a start...
