well, dejected I am, since I got a 2:2 (affectionately known as a Desmond here).
:(
Half of me is saying, you now have letters after your name: Merys Jones BSc (Hons), and the other half is saying yes, but it looks less likely to be Merys Jones MBChB BSc (Hons).
I dunno, one of my med schools hasn't said an outright no yet, so maybe there is some hope, but I couldn't get through to the med school here, so I don't know what they're gonna say.
I don't really know what to do now to be honest. Part of me wants to get a job and pay off my 10K debt, and the other is contemplating a masters.
Answers on a postcard please

Commiserations Merys - but well done for completing your degree and for the letters after your name! Good luck for the future and I really hope you make it as a GP.
Masters every time. No choice. Then a PhD Plan never to repay your debt.
what, as a suitable choice into medicine??
Any ideas of what subject for a masters??
No, what I meant was, as you thought that medicine was no longer an option for you, go and continue with the studying, in something that interests you and will keep you motivated for the year/2years/3years etc that you are doing it, in the hope that it will give you ideas as to what you want to do next. It's all too easy to fall into the - Oh I'll do this just to make do for the moment, and then find yourself 15 years later as chief lab technician in a university somewhere, bitterly regretting taking the temp job 'just for now'. Not MY experience, but something I hear 22 years ago (gosh, didn't realise I was that old, myself!) and its stuck with me ever since. We're only here once, enjoy it. Meanwhile, I've not been a reader of your blog for that long, so not best placed to suggest a Masters subject - what was your project about, can you/ do you want to take that further?
I don't think I can take my dissertation any further, as I don't want to do a research based Masters, more a taught masters. My strengths lie in written work (66% on my dissertation). I fancy a complete change of direction. I'm even considering Medical Ethics for masters, then I can try and get into medicine again in a year. It's just the money that bothers me....
Merys, don't worry about the money - I left a well paid job to go to Uni, now in year 4 out of 7 - foundation, 2yrs, placement, then Masters, and although heavily in debt, it doesn't matter. Another few thousand is not important in the long run, and for your happiness. Have a chat with the admission tutors of your preferred Med school, and a few others that you haven't thought about, and ask them what they think you should do. that way you will probably have more of an idea as to which direction you should go. And sorry, I was being a bit flippant about planning never to repay your debt! Trust me, the money is not the obstacle here.
